Other Information

From the Akron Beacon Journal on April 27, 1943:

2nd Lieutenant Correll, son of Mrs. F. B. Correll, attended McKinley high school and Ohio State University. He was first announced as missing in action on April 16, but last week the family received word that his death on April 8 had been verified. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Hugh, who is a captain in the air corps; a brother, Donald, who is soon to be inducted into the army; a brother, Samuel, and a sister, Joan.

From historian Kathy Franz:

John Blake Correll was using Blake as his middle name which is his mother's maiden name. At McKinley High School and in census reports, his middle name is Theodore, and he was called "Ted." At the end of the yearbook, he is listed as John Correll.

His mother's name was Esther, and he also had a sister Esther Joan. His father Hugh was a machinery salesman who died in 1923. John was born November 1918 as he was 1 year and 2 months old in the January 16, 1920 census. The news article attached says he was 24 years old. In the 1930 census, the older children lived with their grandparents.

His mother was listed as next of kin.
