The Mountain State send Jeff to USNA only four short years ago, and already he has instilled the qualities here that characterize the "wild and wonderful" place he calls home. Wholesome living, high morals, and a strict adherence to the Puritan work ethic made Jeff what he is today! Almost. Although he wasn't much on all-nighters at Nimitz during the week, he sure made up for it on Friday and Saturday at McGarvey's. We should all pick up his study habits.
Well after graduation Jeff will be flying in two ways, one in an F-4, the other with Robin. We know he'll have the stick of the F-4, how 'bout the other? Above all, we'll always remember, "A good pump is number one priority."

Loss
From the Pensacola News Journal on September 24, 1983:
Two members of Training Squadron 3 stationed at Milton's Whiting Field Naval Air Station died Friday when the plane they were flying crashed at a small airfield in Douglas County, III.
The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. at a single-runway airport in Tuscola, Ill., about 200 miles south of Chicago. Navy officials identified the victims as plane pilot Navy Lt. Charles Dobson, 34, of Liberty, S.C., and Marine 2nd Lt. J.C. Ohl, 23, of Huntington, W.Va.
Dobson, married and the father of two children, lived in Pensacola and was a training instructor for VT3 at Whiting, Cmdr. Jerry Ryan, a spokesman for the Chief of Naval Education and Training command at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Ohl, was married and was a VT3 student pilot, he said.
The aircraft that crashed was a T-34C, a single-engine prop plane, Ryan said.
The officers were en route to Flight 200, an airshow at Willard Airport in Savoy, Ill., a Champaign suburb about 20 miles north of Tuscola, said Chief Petty Officer Bruce Blakeman, of Whiting.
Neither of the Whiting officers was scheduled to fly in the airshow, Blakeman said. The T-34C is a training plane and is not suitable for aerobatics, he said. It was intended merely for display at the show.

Second Lieutenant Jeffrey Clyde Ohl USMC was killed in an aircraft accident on 23 September 1983 near Tuscola, Illinois. Memorial services were held at the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, and interment was in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia.
Appointed to the Naval Academy from the State of West Virginia, he was graduated with the Class of 1982. As a first classman he had been company commander of the 33rd Company and captain of the Academy powerlifting team. At the time of his death he was assigned to VT-3, stationed at the Naval Air Station, Whiting Field, where he was undergoing intermediate flight training. He was a life member of the Naval Academy Alumni Association.
He is survived by his widow Robin of Huntington; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Ohl; a brother and a sister.
Obituary
Jeffrey was from Huntington, West Virginia, and has an Educational Scholarship Fund in his name at the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. From the Jeffrey C. Ohl Scholarship application:
Jeff was a member of Johnson Methodist Church his entire life. He was born February 22, 1960, in Huntington, West Virginia, son of David and Mary Lou Ohl. He has an older brother, Matthew, and younger sister, Jennifer. He was active in Sunday School, the Youth Fellowship and Youth Choirs.
Jeff was an outstanding student and a recognized leader among his peers. He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1978 where he was class Salutatorian, Senior Class President, and a three year member of the football team. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he was the 33rd Company Commander.
Following graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. On June 12, 1982, he married Robin Lynn Weed, a member of Highlawn United Methodist Church. Jeff completed flight training at Whiting Field near Pensacola, Florida.
Jeff died September 23, 1983 in a military training crash.
