HUBERT "T" EVANS

Jamestown, Ohio

As a result of his years in Naval Aviation, Hub has been able to spin many yarns about how rough it was at Ottuma Pre-flight. He was lured into athletics by Plebe year carry-on table, and became a mainstay on the Baseball and Pistol Teams. Luck was always with him; to many he was "the man with the built-in horseshoe". When not working on his own Drag of the Week list, he might have been found in one of his two weaknesses—gedunks or picture shows. Always neat and trim, Hugh could make even a pair of white works look sharp.

Loss

Hubert was lost on February 16, 1953 when the F9-F jet he was piloting crashed while returning to USS Philippine Sea (CVA 47) from a combat mission over Korea. He was a member of Fighter Squadron (VF) 93. Hubert and Philippine Sea had only been on station for just over two weeks.

From the now-defunct website USNA 1950:

Hub started his Navy career in the V-12 program at Denison University, Granville, OH. After graduation at USNA, he received his wings at Pensacola, FL and was flying off the USS Philippine Sea when he crashed in a Navy F-9F jet returning from a Korean combat mission.
