DAVID R. SHORE, MAJ, USMC
David Shore '63
Lucky Bag
From the 1963 Lucky Bag:
DAVID RAYMOND SHORE
Lincoln, Rhode Island
One of the oldest members of our class, Dave hails from Lincoln, Rhode Island. Upon graduating from high school he spent three years at Phillips Exeter Academy, Yale, and the Naval Academy Prep School, respectively, before settling down on the banks of the Severn. All of this previous schooling, aided him no end in his first two years at Navy, during which time his name graced the Superintendent's List. But it was not all study for Dave, in that many an hour was spent on the river with the Plebe and varsity Crew while Plebe swimming and company cross country and field ball rounded out his time in the athletic field during the off season. Working towards a Foreign Languages major, Dave carried overload courses in German and Russian, supplementing his class room work with active participation in these language clubs. Not to be contained with personal interests only, he also dedicated two years' work as Lucky Bag representative. Dave is looking forward to joining the ranks of Naval Aviation on graduation.
He was also a member of the 2nd Regiment staff (fall).

Other Information
From VHPA:
David was a Major at the time of his death on 7/9/74. He took his commission into the USMC following graduation from US Naval Academy in 1967. He served three tours of duty in Viet Nam.
Dave's widow, Johanna, died just last December (2007). Dave was stationed at New River, NC after his last tour and just a few weeks after getting home was killed in a landing accident. The landing gear broke off due to a malfunction while doing some touch and goes. The week before, he and his co-pilot (and brother-in-law), John Pearson, broke a world's record by traveling non-stop cross country in an OV-10, the plane he died in.
Dave is buried at Arlington. So long ago and yet so fresh in my memory. Susan Shore, sister, 05/16/2016
The crash was at New Hanover County Airport, North Carolina.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
