Daniel J. Adams

Brick, New Jersey

Dan came running in from Brick, N.J. (exit 7A) via NAPS thanks to Al's intense recruiting techniques. Dan's post NAPS gunginess quickly waned as did his desire to please Al by cutting weight off of his already massive 6-6, 175 lb body Being a misplaced 60's flower child, Dan's music tastes were under constant scrutiny as was his music bible. His "punk rock" posters provided a psychedelic aura to what would have been a drab decor, even Bud agreed with that one. Since all of Dan's heroes expired (i.e. Hendrix, Morrison) his only shoulder left to cry on was that of Timothy Leary. While serving his country in San Diego 1/c summer Dan's appetite shifted to his Suzie Q and her Barbara. Swimming across the bay with those California curves turned out to be a natural aphrodisiac for Dan. As a matter of fact, Dan opted to go into the Marine Corps. They tell me that the Corps is a great place to start a family. To the best "XO" and friend, Good Luck.

Dan majored in Ocean Engineering.

Loss

Daniel was lost on October 16, 1991 when the UH-1 Huey helicopter he was aboard crashed near the Dalton Sea, California.

From the Los Angeles Times on October 18, 1991:

SAN DIEGO — The four Camp Pendleton Marines killed Wednesday when their UH-1 Huey helicopter apparently broke apart and crashed near the Salton Sea during a training flight were identified Thursday as Persian Gulf War veterans.

Officials at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro identified the dead Marines as Master Sgt. Joe C. Snell Jr., 41, of Oceanside; Capt. Daniel J. Adams, 30, of Brick Ocean, N.J.; Capt. Phillip G. Chapman, 30, of Ft. Lewis Pierce, Wash., and Cpl. Jeffrey D. Couch, 22, of Niceville, Fla.

An El Toro statement said the Marines, attached to the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, crashed three miles east of Calpatria, which is southeast of the Salton Sea, during a routine training mission.

Although the helicopter and the Marines were stationed at Camp Pendleton, the squadron is attached to the air wing at El Toro.
