CLINTON JEFFERSON FARMER
Woodland, Maine
As a heavy "down-east" accent hinted, Clint came to the Academy from Woodland, Maine. A year at Maine Central Institute left Clint well prepared for academics, and he never found himself on the wrong side of the books. His constantly friendly, good-natured personality made him extremely popular with his classmates and a valued friend.
Intramural sports showed Clint to be a good athlete and rugged competitor, making his presence felt in Company soccer and football, and Battalion rugby.
A New Englander at heart, Clint was more than ready to spend his winter weekends in search of good skiing.
His quick wit and always pleasant personality will assure success in whatever field he applies his talents.
He was also a member of the 5th Company staff (fall).

Loss
Clinton was lost on June 13, 1978 when the T-38 aircraft he was aboard crashed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.

From the September 1978 issue of Shipmate:
Appointed to the Naval Academy from the State of Maine, LCdr. Farmer was graduated with the Class of 1966 and proceeded to flight training, being designated naval aviator in 1967. He was assigned to VA-125 and VA-22 at the naval air station, Lemoore, California, then attended postgraduate school at Monterey before returning to Lemoore. He attended the test pilot school in 1975 and was assigned to Strike Aircraft Test Directorate for one year before being ordered to the test pilot school as an instructor.
He is survived by his widow, Sarah, a son and a daughter, all of California, Maryland.

Clinton gave the Class History of Woodland High School at graduation in 1961. He was class president, a member of the National Honor Society, earned letters in basketball and baseball, and received an All State Band certificate.
He attended Maine Central Institute for one year where he was a member of the Humanities Colloquium and was elected to the student council for a new dormitory.
At the Navy Academy, he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. His parents attended the Army-Navy game in December 1962 when the corps played.
On August 27, 1966, he married Sarah Elgie Umphrey at the Holy Trinity Chapel at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola. Swordsmen were Ensigns Thomas J. Smisek, Steven Rohr Kemper, David A. Patch and John T. Frederiksen.
Clinton is buried in New Hampshire.
A theater was named for Clint at the Naval Air Test and Evaluation Museum. (The museum has since been renamed.)
