Primary interest in his Academy life was good music, and for four years he played his bass fiddle for the NA-10 in a highly creditable manner. Prepared for the military by Valley Forge and the tasks of higher education by Penn State, Art came to Middyville with a background that has stood him in good stead ever since. Art's love life never got him in deep water, but rather blossomed after second class cruise when the best in talented young Moore was brought out. With a smile, Art will always be remembered as a fine friend and classmate.

He was also a member of the 5th Company staff (2nd set).

Loss

Archie was lost when his aircraft crashed in the Mediterranean Sea on February 20, 1962 while operating from USS Shangri-La (CVA 38). He was survived by his wife and two children.

Biography

From researcher Kathy Franz:

Arthur graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1947 and then attended Penn State. After graduating from the Naval Academy, he received his Navy Wings at Pensacola. In 1957 he was attached to the 112th Attack Squadron aboard the carrier U.S.S. Hancock. He was deployed from his ship in Japan on July 10 and flown back to California to start college on August 12, 1957. He completed a post-graduate aeronautical engineering course at Monterey, California, in 1959. He was awarded the Centurion Medal for 100 perfect carrier landings.
On Sunday, April 29, 1962, two Bibles were presented in his memory to the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tremont. The pulpit Bible was presented by Arthur’s family. The lectern Bible was presented by Attack Squadron (VA) 176, U.S.S. Shangri-La, Arthur’s squadron. The translation of the Bible is the Revised Standard Version. Flowers in the altar vases were presented in his memory by his high school classmates.
He was survived by his parents Paul, a grocer, and mother Catherine of Tremont; his wife, the former Charlotte Chambers; children Linda Carol 7 and Randy Paul 3 ½; sisters Elizabeth and Mary; several nieces and nephews; and a great-aunt, Mrs. Mae Wheeler, who died a month after Arthur.

Arthur is buried in Pennsylvania.
